Without going too in depth, both tools differ in how they synthesise sound; the goal isn't for sfxia to be a superset of BFXR but to be a tool separate to it that produces sounds that are typically different to what it would produce. Sure you can! We encourage it and we'd love to hear about your gameon Twitter.

Can I use Aseprite in several of my computers?

Yes, you can. Official Aseprite packages are distributed under aspecificEULA,and you are able to copy the program as many times as you want on yourcomputers (and in different operating systems).

Can I install Aseprite in 5, 10, or more computers buying just one copy?

If they are your own computers, yes you can. If you are in a company, you need one license for each developer. If you are in an educationalinstitution, you canrequest a special license for educational purposes.

Is there an educational license?

In case you are a teacher in an educational institution, and you wantto use Aseprite in your classroom, you canrequest a special license for educational purposes.

If Aseprite source code is available, how is that you are selling it?

Aseprite started being open source since its very beginning in 2001,and we were happy with that untilAugust 2016. Nowyou can still download its source code, compile it, and use it foryour personal purposes. You canmake commercial art/assets with it too. Theonly restriction inAseprite EULAis thatyou cannot redistribute Aseprite tothird parties.

Can I redistribute Aseprite?

No. From August 2016 you cannot redistribute compiled versions ofAseprite. We have replaced the General Public License (GPLv2) with thenewAseprite EULA.The only way to redistribute Aseprite is with an specialeducational license.

Anyway this does not restrict most users: You can still compile thesource code, and use the program to create your assets for commercialgames. You can also makecontributions to Asepriteor modify its source code for your personal purposes.

Is there a SNES color palette?

No. Because the Super NES could be configured to display 256simultaneous values from the 15-bit RGB color spectrum (perlayer). FromWikipedia:

The Picture Processing Unit (PPU) used in the Super NES has a 15-bitRGB (32,768 color) palette, with up to 256 simultaneous colors atonce.

However, while the hardware palette can only contain 256 entries, inmost display modes the graphics are arranged into between 2 and 4layers, and these layers can be combined using additive orsubtractive color blending. Because these blended colors arecalculated by the hardware itself, and do not have to be representedby any of the existing palette entries, the actual number of visiblecolors onscreen at any one time can be much higher.

The exact number depends on the number of layers, and thecombination of colors used by these layers, as well as what blendingmode and graphical effects are in use. In theory it can show theentire 32,768 colors, but in practice this is rarely the case forreasons such as memory use. Most games use 256-color mode, with15-color palettes assigned to 8x8 pixel areas of the background.

Export a .gif to a sequence of .png files

You can open the .gif with File > Open and then select File > Savechoosing a file name like frame00.png. When the operation iscompleted, you will get a sequence of files like frame00.png,frame01.png, frame02.png, etc.

Is there any difference between .ase and .aseprite files?

No. It's the same difference between .jpg and .jpeg. Bothextensions can be used to save the full sprite information (layers +frames). The .aseprite alternative is given because Photoshopuses .ase extension for Adobe Swatches Exchange files.

Why do the colors change when exporting a sprite to a .gif file?

GIF files support only 256 colors. So if you are exporting a RGBsprite with more than 256 colors, or any kind of sprite with severallayers with different blending modes, blurred areas, or specialeffects like glows, you will have problems exporting the image to GIFfiles. As a general rule: if you are going to export to GIF, youshould use less than 256 colors on RGB sprites, or use Indexed spritesdirectly.

More Details: The GIF format supports 256 new colors on eachframe. It means, each frame (a rectangular area) cannot introduce morethan 256 new colors to the image (and the previous colors in therectangular area are lost). Aseprite tries to use this knowledge tocalculate the minimal rectangular area between two consecutive framesand then calculate what colors should be introduced in the frame, anyway generally it's really hard to use more than 256 colors. Here'ssome example of these special GIF with more than 256 colors:https://imgur.com/gallery/VTJu5T0

Why do I see double-sized pixels?

Each Aseprite pixel uses 2x2 real pixels on the screen. It is designedin this way to reproduce look & feel of old sprite editors, and it isachieved only using this special configuration of pixels on thescreen.

Anyway, sometimes you need to edit images with the full screenresolution. You can do so going to Edit > Options, and selecting1:1 in Screen Scale field. You will need to restart the programafter this change.

Is Aseprite for Windows USB portable?

The program works in both ways, depending if the configurations fileaseprite.ini exists in the same folder where aseprite.exe islocated.

From Aseprite v1.0.2 the configuration is saved in the current usersettings folder by default(i.e. %AppData%/Aseprite/aseprite.ini). Anyway, if you copy youraseprite.ini in the aseprite.exe folder, Aseprite detects that youwant to carry your configuration with you, so the program acts like aportable app.

Anyway we distribute both versions:

  1. A .exe installer which associates .ase/.aseprite files with Aseprite.exe, and
  2. a portable .zip version that you can uncompress in any folder.

I have a lag using my pen, is there any solution?

If you are having problems with your Wacom pen or tablet, you can trythe following solutions:

Other possible solution is to turn up the double click speed onWindows and Wacom settings. (And could be a good idea to turn down thearea in which double clicks are registered.)

Where is .asepriterc on Mac OS X?

It's in your home directory (⇧⌘+H) as a hidden file.

To see hidden files see this article.

Does Aseprite run on Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite?

Yes, it does.

I cannot resize or maximize the window on Linux, why?

This is a recurrent problem of Linux users. The precompiled Linuxdistribution of Aseprite (which is not officially supported by ourteam) is linked to a shared version of Allegro 4 library.

We've fixed this problem years ago distributing a patched version ofAllegro 4 along with Aseprite source code. The problems is that wedidn't find enough time to merge those patches upstream, i.e. officialAllegro 4 library doesn't contain our patches to resize the window.

The conclusion is that if you want to resize the window, you shouldcompile Aseprite by yourself, which is the best advice we can giveyou. It's not too hard if you followour instructions.(Almost all dependencies are included in the GitHub repository.)

Is there an official package for Linux?

Helix (itch) (f4b1) mac os. We are releasing packages for Ubuntu (x86 and x64) at thismoment. Fedora is being considered for a near future.

How do I run Aseprite standalone without Steam?

Aseprite is completely DRM-free, anyway, using the default Steamoption to create a desktop shortcut you will notice that it opensSteam to launch Aseprite. Regardless of this behavior, you can createyour own direct shortcut to the Aseprite executable file to startAseprite without Steam.

The guard mac os. More information.

How do I update my current version?

If you don't remember where you got Aseprite, you can use these order resenders:

If you have an user in Humble Bundle, itch.io, or Gumroad, you can getit directly from your library on each case:

  • If you are using Aseprite onSteam updates areinstalled automatically by default.

You can always contact us if you have any issuedownloading the update. We can resend you the receipt with yourdownload link.

How do you pronounce Aseprite?

See this page.

Aseprite icon looks familiar, where do I know it from?

It's a little tribute to what we think is the greatest game of all time:Super Mario World. It specifically refers to one of the few animatedblocks in this game: the rotating block.

On the fence about making a video or 2 for this game, since there are none, and this looks fairly interesting. I just need to confirm: it doesn't seem the game lets you do hotseat with just 1 controller. Is that right?

https://slots-graph-spin-online-dragon-play-ozwhk.peatix.com. Oh, and 1 criticism/question. Why no drafting for the Unit Playground?

There is no hotseat for a single controller, that's correct. You can play both sides with the keyboard, though.

Unit Playground's purpose is to immediately get into a map with all of the characters to test their movesets. It was originally a debug map for testing various interactions between units and I left it in for people to experiment with. Adding a drafting step for that map would slow down my ability to test units out when iterating quickly during development, so I left it out for this one.

Thanks for playing the game!

Ah, good to know. Well I'll be getting familiar with the game for the time being, and I'll be sure to get any interesting matches I get on video if I can. Thanks for responding.

Hey, it's been a while. I have some time to try recording matches for your game now, but while practicing matches and attempting to record, I came across a couple of bugs related to units dying when a new round begins. I've only been battling in the Desert Coliseum, so I don't know if these bugs occur in other maps.

If a player has their last unit killed at the beginning of a new round (via Pentagram or Giant Bomb in my scenarios), the game doesn't seem to be able to register that the game is over. This bug's a minor one since the turn player can just surrender after the effects are resolved and then the game gives out the end screen with the proper result.

.However, it looks like if a Creep is killed at the beginning of a new round, the game seems to crash. I'm not sure if it has to be the last Creep in play to cause this, but I know that this has happened to me twice.

Tiny Tactics (itch) Mac OS

This is a short clip of my 2nd crash for reference.

Thank you very much for reporting this bug. I am able to reproduce the issue whenever a creep dies from a trap between rounds. I'll take a look tonight to try to find a fix and I'll let you know once I have a solution. Thanks again!

Hey again. I was able to find a quick solution and I've pushed an update to all platforms with a fix for the crash. The other scenario would be slightly trickier, but you should be able to just end your turn normally as the remaining team and the game will check for a winner before the next player starts their turn. Thanks again.

Wow cool game! You're clearly a Fire Emblem fan and there's clearly a lot of passion put into this project! There's a humble bundle with a ton of game icons. Do you think it might be useful at all for your game?

Also you should post about your game on Serenesforest, it's a Fire Emblem fanpage. I'm not sure what forum thread specifically but they might appreciate a game like yours.

Hi, thanks for taking time to check out the game! I've seen that bundle before and skimmed through it looking to see if it might be a good fit, but the art styles are a bit too hi-res for my kind of projects. I am focusing more on doing my own art going forward as opposed to using other folks' assets for future work, anyways.

Fire Emblem is definitely one of many sources of inspiration for this game! The original idea was to make a Fire Emblem-style game I could play with my friends, though it has morphed into more of its own thing since then with a lot of other influences (DOS2, 40k, etc). I don't know where a good place to post about it on this FE site would be and I'm pretty bad at shilling my own stuff and it's not exactly a fangame, so I'll take a look around and see if there's a place that makes sense.

Cool! Also what's the inspiration behind the name of the game?

That one's pretty simple; I wanted something with alliteration and something vaguely war-related but not immediately obvious (a battle standard flag) and I played with a bunch of names until I settled on this one. No big inspiration for that I'm afraid, haha.

i do the download of the game, i use ubuntu 19.10 and a like to know how to run that game. i download a .zip file, i extracted the game. but don't show any icon when i can open the game. what can i do? sorry for my english, i hope you understand me.

For mac office. On Linux it should just be the SolStandard file without an extension. You should be able to open it by double-clicking it, or use a terminal to run the file.

it doesn't happen to me, how can i use the terminal for that?

It works for me on a fresh install of Ubuntu just by double-clicking the SolStandard file. If you need one-on-one assistance, you can join the Discord and I can help you there.

maybe i need your assistance, what is your discord?

I saw this tagged as open source, where can I find the source code?

Hi. You can find the project on my GitHub here: https://github.com/Talberon/solstandard

When I connect my controller it does not respond. I went into setting and tried to reconfigure it but it would not let me. (P.S. This game is AWESOME.)

Which platform are you playing on and which kind of controller are you trying to connect with? I know of an issue with Xbox One controllers on Mac, but any detail you can provide will help me figure it out.

Glad you enjoy the game! :)

I am using an Xbox One controller on Mac with a driver. But what was unusual was that when I closed the driver the game crashed.

Which driver are you using? Also are you using it wired or wireless? I will take a look into this tonight.

I use a the newest version of an Xbox 360 Controller Driver by FranticRain on github. (Works for Xbox One Controllers.) I run it on macOS Catalina.

Okay; I've released a new version for Mac that should let Xbox One controllers be picked up as gamepads properly now (v1.0.3). Please let me know if that works for you!

There is an issue with the how to play button. It takes me to the credits. Checking the website for instructions.

Thanks for the heads-up! I will push a new build that fixes this in a few minutes.

Tiny Tactics (itch) Mac Os X

EDIT: It should be fixed now!
